Trail Maintenance
The Trail Maintenance Workdays will be posted on the calendar
(see menu above). The workdays are scheduled about a month in
advance. If you find a problem on one of the trails that
needs attention, submit a maintenance request by clicking on
Maintenance Requests (above). All submitted requests
will be sent to the Forest Manager. These will be reviewed by the staff
and then scheduled for a workday.
In April 2004, the Sabaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew visited Harbison State
Forest. They put on a basic Trailbuilding School and then
everyone put their new skills into practice on "Hit the Trails
Day"--

Friends Day
Each Spring, The Friends of Harbison Forest plan
a weekend event celebrating the forest and all it offers. We hope this
yearly celebration will introduce the wonders of Harbison Forest to an
ever widening circle of "friends". Activities will vary from year to
year but will include such things as trail runs, mountain bike races,
nature walks, canoe/kayak rides, owl prowls, backyard habitat workshops,
beekeeping, and more. Watch for the announcement so you can come and
bring your family and friends to celebrate with us! For a description of what happened in 2005,
see Friends Weekend .
Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day
The International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA)
National Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day is planned for the first Saturday in October each year. The Friends of Harbison Forest encourage all who love kids and biking to bring a child, their own or someone else's, and join in the activities here at Harbison Forest. You will have fun, improve biking skills and learn about bike safety. The Poster advertising the event for 2007 lists activities and the photographs show the results.
Community Outreach
Schedule a Speaker. Friends of Harbison Forest can provide a speaker/slide
presentation about Harbison Forest at no charge.
Groups need to provide
a screen suitable for projection, a stand for the projector and access
to an electrical outlet.
To schedule a speaker, contact the Forest Manager, James Miller
(T: 803-896-8893
E: email ).
He will get in touch with you.
We are developing a slide presentation explaining why
the Friends of Harbison Forest was formed and exploring all the ways
we benefit from the Forest as a recreational, educational and natural
resource. Several members will be available to present this, talk
about the projects we are currently working on and explain what the
Friends hope to accomplish in the long term.
