Sunday's Walk in the Woods

I just got back from my Sunday morning hike at HSF. I got to see a 6 pt.
buck w/female today at the same point I saw them yesterday: Firebreak East, going counter-clockwise, just past the little bridge. Yesterday he was stalking her, today they were feeding side by side.

I took Les' connector from Midlands Mtn. to Spider Woman. Les, the golden sunlight slanting in across the misty river was delightful. Great trail!

Spider Woman's maples have turned red and are absolutely gorgeous. Would have missed them if not for that trail being there. Thanks, Bob!

I did notice a couple of sections of this trail that could benefit from a reroute like the superb one that Bob and Steve laid out that rainy, rainy Saturday so long ago. Their efforts, and those of you who assisted them in the actual trail work, certainly have made MMT a nicer trail.

I also noticed how dry our canoe ramp is. I guess I've been distracted from FHSF things and didn't even think about how the drought has effected that spot. And I guess I keep hoping it'll rain tomorrow. Well, tomorrow's rain has only come once or twice and it's dry, dry, dry back there. Would this be a good time to get some work done back there? We've talked about it before--Why not?

The last cool thing I saw out there was a doe who actually came towards me (as I was afraid that buck might do yesterday) to see who/what I was. She had been on the back side of a small rise and came to the crest to see what was moving around in her neighborhood. I talked to her and she just stood there. Think there was a fawn nearby? It seems kind of late but...
